Your children are very important to us at The First Presbyterian Church of Skaneateles! The Bible tells us that children are a gift from God. At The First Presbyterian Church of Skaneateles, we want to partner with you, the parent, to train your children for God's purposes. As children learn from the Bible and experience God's love both at home and at church, the message of God's love for them is reinforced, giving each child an opportunity to move into the future with a solid faith foundation. Thank you for the privilege of partnering with us to help your child develop a love of Jesus Christ! We believe the programs and curriculum in our classes and ministries are truly good for your family.

If you have questions about what we offer here for children and youth, please feel free to Rev. Mario Bolivar at

Early Childhood and Nursery

Nursery Care in our attractive facility is always available during worship for our littlest ones, birth through age 3. Families are welcome to bring their children into the safe hands of our Child Care Professional, Lori Sheriff, or you may bring them into the sanctuary for worship. Either way that you choose as a parent, the congregation is delighted with the children’s company and with the energy that they bring to the house of the Lord.
“Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.” Matthew 10: 14

Early Elementary (Pre-K to 3rd Grade)

Your children are invited to participate in “Children and Worship” which is a spiritual formation approach that presents a joyful way for children to worship God. It invites children and adults to experience the wonder and mystery of God through a unique storytelling format and multi-sensory materials.
“Children and Worship” is designed for three to five year olds, but it can be enjoyed by people of all ages. This program is found in churches across America, as well as in South Africa, England, South Korea, Mexico, and Japan. It has been used with children, in nursing homes, and in hospitals. Our Sunday school teachers will encourage your children to love, to be friendly, to share, to talk to and follow God.
Children will be led to their classroom after “The Children’s Sermon” and will spend the second half of worship in a small group setting that includes the lesson of the day and crafts that reinforce the Biblical story.

Upper Elementary (4th Grade to 6th Grade)

Every Sunday the children will begin their class with prayer and a small recount of their week (something good and/or bad) as a way for the Sunday school teacher to have an opportunity to know the children and connect with them. In addition, every lesson will begin with an introductory video or activity that will set the theme for the session. They will have time to read the Scriptures, to answer questions while learning from one another, as well as from their Sunday school teacher, as they study the events of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, and His early ministry.
Our curriculum called “DWELL” flows from its Reformed/Presbyterian interpretation of Scripture. While intentionally non-denomination specific, it affirms the three ecumenical Christian creeds: Apostles’ Creed, Nicene Creed, and Athanasian Creed. While our curriculum does not specifically reference any of the doctrinal standards of the Reformed and Presbyterian churches, it is fully consistent with all of them.

Presbyterian Youth Connection (PYC) 7th to 12th Grade

We respond to God's call through the Holy Spirit to be connected to each other, the church, and the world so that our lives proclaim with joy that Jesus Christ is Lord! Our youth group and Sunday School Class is built on the five intentions of the Presbyterian Youth Ministry:
• To call young people to be disciples of Jesus Christ.
• To respond to the needs and the interests of young people.
• To work together, youth and adults, in partnership.
• To be connected to the whole church, community, and the world.
• To include all young people, reaching out and inviting them to belong to the community of faith.

The class meets at 10:30am following worship to continue our connection to God, to one another and the world through prayer, study of scripture, fellowship, and activities of mission! This year our curriculum is called “Echo the Story 36” which is a 36-session overview of the Bible for youth. The complete “Echo the Story 36” experience helps participants discover meaning and identity in the Biblical narrative using short films, participant Sketch Journals, and mission—the class will be given the opportunity to not only learn about the message of Jesus Christ but also to practice such a message as, once a month, they will cook and serve lunch at The Manor and cook for other organizations.

Confirmation Class

There is no specific age at which a youth should or is able to join a Confirmation Class. It is our custom to encourage youth in the 9th grade to participate in the Class. Any youth who have not participated in a Confirmation Class either at our church or at a previous church are also invited to participate.
The Confirmation Class it is the process by which students publicly profess their faith before the Congregation and become individual members of The First Presbyterian Church of Skaneateles. Confirmands meet regularly for fellowship and study. They study the Bible, the sacraments, the church, the Trinity, worship, church history, and Reformed & Presbyterian Theology.

Schedules for Confirmation Classes are unique to a given Class. This year the confirmation class will be meeting at 8:30am on Sunday Mornings starting on Oct 4th 2015 (Hot Breakfast and refreshments included) at the Conner room. If you are interested in participating in a future confirmation experience, please contact or call the church office, 315-685-5048

Children's Choir (1st Grade to 6th Grade)

Children (1st-6th grade) have the opportunity to participate in the FPCS children's choir. Throughout the year, the children are able to perform in special worship services and events. The children are able to use their musical gifts while learning how to worship God through music and service. For more information please contact our Choir Director Stephanie Mowery at
