A note about June 9 music:
Veni Creator Spiritus is a hymn for Pentecost believed to have originated in the 9th century. The variations on that tune presented today span a period of about 400 years; Jean Titelouze (1563-1633)- Early Baroque; Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)- German Late Baroque; Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911)- 19th c. French Romantic, and Dom Paul Benoit (1893-1979)- French 20c. The variations are invocations to the Holy Spirit, although the postlude is more evocative of the Spirit's wind and fire. John Ferguson's arrangement of 'Like the Murmur of the Dove's Song' explores sounds on the organ that mimic the cooing song of the Dove.
